3rd Short Course on "Gender, Media and Conflict"

Sudanese delegation advocates for peace

On 24th March, 2009, FAS had the privilege of welcoming five Sudanese delegates to attend events and do advocacy at the 10th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, Switzerland. This was a follow up to the 2nd Sudanese Women’s Forum on Darfur (SWOFOD) that took place from 5-7th January 2009. »


The International Colloquium

7th - 8th March 2009 - Monrovia, LIBERIA

The International Colloquium on Women's Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security 2009 took place in Liberia on the 7-8 of March 2009 preceded by the youth event organized by the World YWCA and celebrating women under the peace tent event organized by Femmes Africa Solidarite  on 6th March and followed by Liberia National Celebrations organized by the Ministry of Gender and Development on 9-10 March. »


International Colloquium Around the Corner

Women leaders from around the world will convene for the International Colloquium for Women's Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security in Monrovia, Liberia, on 7th - 8th March 2009.

The Conference, co-convened by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and President Tarja Halonen of Finland, seeks to create an environment for women and their champions around the world to discuss, learn, demonstrate and act on the benefits and lessons learned from women in leadership. »


53rd Session of the Commission of the Status of Women: HIV/AIDS, a great risk for women in conflict areas

The theme for this year's 53rd Session of the Commission of the Status of Women (CSW) was: The equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV7AIDS. To this end, FAS took the opportunity to invite guests from Sudan and the Sudanese Diaspora to highlight the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and children in conflict areas. A panel discussion titled: HIV/AIDS, women and war, special vulnerability for Darfuri women, what role can men play? was held on March 4 at the Church Centre in New York. »  


Sudanese women advocate at the UN CSW

2nd -13th March  2009 - New York, USA

At this year's 53rd session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) from March 2nd to March 13th 2009, FAS has organised parallel events aimed at raising awareness of the plight of Sudanese women and bring to the international fora their advocacy message.

Four panel discussions have been organised from March 2 -6, 2009 at which Sudanese women from Darfur and the Diaspora will discuss their difficulties and campaign for the international community to help them. »


Second Meeting of the Sudanese Women's Forum on Darfur

The second meeting of the Sudanese Women's Forum on Darfur is an initiative of FAS in partnership with Realizing Rights and the Gender is My Agenda Campaign (GIMAC), supported by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and Norwegian Government.
