After ten years of extensive experience in the field of gender, peace and security, Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS) knows how crucial communication is. As FAS's work demonstrates, conflict can destroy communities, but dialogue can rebuild them, and we must continue supporting and reinforcing the networking activities of women dedicated to peacebuilding in their communities. FAS believes that these women's familiarity with the tools of modern communication will raise awareness of their contribution to peace and disseminate their views on conflict prevention, management and resolution to a wider audience.
With this in mind, we hope that the new website will complement FAS's communication activities and become a powerful and effective means of keeping in touch with our members and partners and of extending our global information exchange.
Furthermore, it is our intention to publicize and promote the role of African women in the political life of the continent, so that they can develop and strengthen their capabilities for effective leadership. Women are strong decision-makers and peacebuilders, and we must ensure that they are allowed to maximize and reach their full potential. Political progress is being made - the election of Africa's first female president in Liberia demonstrates this - but much remains to be done if women are to take their rightful place alongside men in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Women have so much to contribute to society in Africa and, through this website, FAS and its partners can continue to show their support for these important initiatives.
The great strides we have made and our many accomplishments along the way would not have been possible without the commitment of our members, partners, networks, staff and volunteers who have promoted FAS's vision, mission and objectives through their dedication and professionalism.
Yours in solidarity,
Executive Director of Femmes Africa Solidarité
